A total of five one-hour individual sessions with the Princeton Writing Coach (and of course, BMC alum & long-time friend!) Richard Trenner to be held over a period of two to six months via Zoom or a similar platform. You and the coach agree on times to meet in the 2022 calendar year.

Richard Trenner, the Princeton Writing Coach, has…

  • coached many people with English as a second language (ESL) backgrounds
  • authored/coauthored three books about writing and edited some 30 books

Overview:

During our initial discussion, you and Richard clarify your objectives, strengths, and areas for improvement. We also decide what to focus on—basically whatever aspects of your writing matter the most to you. Your writing is the “lab” where we explore key principles and apply best practices related to the kind(s) of writing you want to do. Every session involves planning and reviewing your own writing as well as explorig practical principles and smart techniques related to writing well.

Typical areas for study and practice might include…

  • developing an effective writing and reviewing process;
  • mastering grammar, style, word choice, logical flow, and clear structure
  • writing in English as an acquired or “second” language
  • planning, drafting, and revising reports, papers, and presentations
  • writing for a specific purpose—for example, writing college or graduate school application essays, or writing about politics, science, or the environment
  • writing fiction.
