Two books + Art: "Philosoprops: A Unified Field Guide", "An Intricate Ensemble: The Art-Science of an Ecological Imaginary for the Anthropocene Epoch", and a piece of Sonic Fabric
Artist Alyce Santoro who participated in our 2012 Climate of Change Residency (and donated a beautiful sunfish sail the following year) has donated additional work. The first book, Philosoprops: A Unified Field Guide was worked on in part at Blue Mountain Center. Published in 2013, it is a 100-page offset printed limited-edition (250 copies) artist's book/biography/catalog/exegesis on ways that thought—and the phenomena that spark it—shapes culture.
The second book, An Intricate Ensemble: The Art-Science of an Ecological Imaginary for the Anthropocene Epoch, also offset printed and just over 100 pages, was submitted in winter 2019 as my master's thesis for Rhode Island School of Design's Nature-Culture-Sustainability Studies program. Many of the ideas contained within were seeded at BMC. In a nutshell: practices and frameworks that emphasize and enhance collaboration, spontaneity, and care, in defying convention, contain the potential to subvert it.
Also included is a 9"x12" piece of Sonic Fabric, a textile woven from cassette tape recorded with "Between Stations", a collage of found and created sounds and music including samples collected on and under the streets of New York City in 2002.
