"Into the Light Cellar" by Suzanne Opton

Into the Light Cellar, signed by Suzanne Opton, who joined our 2010 Costs of War Focus Residency. 8"x8" book of photographs and recorded stories from eight isolated Vermont families in the early 1970's. 

It’s from the beginnings of my passion for photography. In the early 1970’s I moved from San Francisco to Vermont where I met a fascinating group of people, mostly brothers and sisters who lived at the end of a dirt road and had little ambition beyond living their lives much as their parents had. The book includes recorded stories.
