"Two Suns" (1989) by Ryk Ekedal

Ryk Ekedal (2013 resident) has donated Two Suns (1989). Below is their description:

Hand-pulled etching. Printed by the artist (myself). Printed in an edition of 20, of which this impression is number 6. Image size, 21 3/4 inches x 7 3/4 inches. The print is matted in archival museum board so overall size with matt is 30 1/4 inches x 17 1/4 inches. The matt package has been framed with a Nielsen #11 matte-black metal frame, glazed with plexiglass. The reverse has hanging wire attached. The print was intended as an elegy to the victims of the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. On those days two "suns" rose on those cities. The flash of the detonations burned shadows of people and objects caught in the open. Thus the title, "Two Suns".
