"The Kenyan TJRC" by Ronald Slye, Foreword by Desmond Tutu

Ron Slye (1999 resident) authored The Kenyan TJRC, with foreword written by late activist Desmond Tutu. This hardcover includes both their signatures (Desmond Tutu's signature via a book sticker). Below is Ron's description of the book: 

This is a book about my experience as one of three international Commissioners (and the only one not from Africa) on the nine person Kenyan Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission. It provides some general information about transitional justice, including comparing the South African experience (in which I was also a participant) and the Kenyan experience. Part of the book gives a behind the scenes look at the interference by the President of Kenya to have references to his families landholdings removed (an interference that the international commissioners strongly resisted), and the efforts to address the three areas of conflict of interest shared by the Chair of the Commission, including involvement in the worst massacre in the history of Kenya. The latter led us to recommend that our Chair be further investigated and, if the evidence warranted, prosecuted for his involvement. This is the only time a truth commission has made such a recommendation with respect to its Chair (or with respect to any other member).
